You’ve decided to live on campus—congratulations! Now it’s time to reserve your spot.
Housing is assigned on a first come, first served basis for new students, based on the date you submit your application.
To make the application process smoother and help you and your family make the right housing decisions, consider the following steps.

1 REVIEW DEADLINES
- You know important dates for new students.
- Select your housing options.
- Formally submit your application.
2 DO YOUR HOMEWORK
Think about details—it will help you make big decisions.
Research housing options: Take an online tour of the residence halls, including photos of each room type in each area; consider community type, bathroom privacy, and meal plan requirements. The application will ask you to rank your first four preferences for room types and areas.
Review meal plans: Meal plans are required in all living areas except Campus Apartments, College Creek and Off-Campus Hotels.
Compare housing and meal plan costs.
Review the Housing & Residence Life and Dining License Agreement and Terms
Understand cancellation and vacate policies.

3 CHOOSE YOUR OPTIONS
Fill out the application in your myhousing.humboldt.edu.
- Select a meal plan
- Rank your housing preferences
- Select optional theme or community living areas
- Fill out your roommate profile
- Need rental insurance? Although you can get any insurance coverage if you choose to, you can sign up in the Housing Application with GradGuard.
- Review all documents in the Required Reading Section.
4 SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION
- Read and sign the license agreement
- Formally submit your online application
5 CHECK YOUR EMAIL OFTEN
Confirmation of your room assignment or your wait list notification will be heading you way!

FAQs
- Is Housing guaranteed? No Housing is first come, first served based on the date and time the Housing Application is submitted.
- What if I'm not sure if I want to live on-campus? If you're considering coming to Cal Poly Humboldt, and may want to live on-campus, you should apply. We often have waitlists, and there is no application fee. Just make sure to cancel by July 14, 2023 to avoid any penalty fees, and provide 30 days notice.
- Is there an application fee? There is no application fee for your Housing Application. Just make sure to cancel by July 14, 2023 to avoid any penalty fees, and provide 30 days notice.
- Can I pick my roommate? Students will be able to use the Roommate Finder starting on March 1, 2023. Students that do not select a preferred roommate, will be placed into available spaces based on their responses to the Profile Questions in the Housing Application.
- What are my chances of getting a single room? There are a limited number of single rooms. Housing is first come, first served, so the sooner your application is submitted, the better your chances of getting a single room.
- How do I indicate in the application that I want a single room? On the Room Preferences page, you will be able to indicate your top 3 choices by area in the drop down. If you would like a single room, make sure that you say "Yes" to the Single Room question under the Preferences.
- When will I find out if I get Housing on-campus? Room Assignment or Waitlist Notification emails will be sent out in mid May.
- Will I be able to select my room? Those students that get to select their room will be notified of their room selection time in late March. Students that do not get to participate in room selection, will be placed into available spaces based on their responses to the Profile Questions in the Housing Application.
- Can I just sign up for Housing on-campus for just the Fall semester? No, the Housing Application is for the full 2023/2024 Academic Year. Those students graduating, withdrawing, or transferring at the end of the Fall semester, that will no longer be attending Cal Poly Humboldt, will need to submit a Vacate Form in their myHousing account by November 16, 2023 to provide 30 days notice, and not be subject to penalties.
