FAQs

  • Will there be Housekeeping Services? Yes. Housekeeping Services will be twice a week. Sheets and bathroom towels will be washed and changed, and the bedroom and bathroom will be cleaned.
  • Can I pick my roommate? Yes! The Roommate Finder will be open until April 15th in your Housing Application for you to find a roommate you want to live with.
  • What if I don't have a car? Not a problem! The Arcata & Mad River Transit System (AMRTS) that students get free access to during the academic year (included with their term fees) has a bus stop just down the street. Students just need to show their Humboldt ID, and can ride for free. AMRTS offers bus service to campus Monday - Saturday, 7 am - 10 pm. Check the AMRTS site for the full schedule.
  • What if I'm bringing a car? Residents will have free parking, but space is limited. Students will also have to purchase a parking permit when parking on-campus.
  • Where will I get mail and packages sent to me? Your mail packages will be sent directly to the hotel. You can have your mail and packages sent to: Your Name, Comfort Inn Room # XXX, 4700 Valley West Blvd. Arcata, CA 95521.
  • Will staff be living there? Yes, there will be two Resident Advisors living in the building. A Residence Life Coordinator will also be overseeing this area.
  • What sort of activities will Reslife be offering to residents? The breakfast room space will be available daily for Residence Life programming, such as game nights and study groups, after breakfast. Activities will be planned here, just like the buildings on-campus.
  • Is it safe there? There are camera surveillance systems. University Police and hotel staff will patrol the property regularly. The hotel desk is staffed 24/7, including holidays. Cal Poly Humboldt Resident Assistants (student staff) will live in the hotel residential community. They will help reinforce the Campus Code of Student Conduct, and foster a safe and welcoming environment that supports your success.
  • Is living at the hotel the same as living in on-campus housing? Although there are some differences, there are a lot of similarities. The Reslife & You Handbook still applies to residents living at the hotels, and in addition, there are some policies specific to the Hotels.
  • What if I have an emotional support animal? Some of the hotels do allow for emotional support animals, but not all. Small fish or reptiles in 10-gallon aquariums are allowed at all the hotels.
  • How will I access food? There will be a free continental breakfast each morning. How residents eat lunch and dinner will vary for each resident. Meal plans to eat on-campus are available for purchase but are optional. Residents will want to decide how often they plan to be on-campus, and how often they plan to eat there. When you use a swipe at the J, you could also get an ozzi box (to-go box) and take food back with you since it's all you can eat. So two meals in one. All rooms will come with a mini-fridge and microwave as well.
  • Are there air conditioning units in the rooms? Yes.
  • Is there bike storage? No, there is no bike storage, but bikes can be kept in rooms.
  • Are electric burners or hot plates allowed? No items with exposed heating elements are allowed at the hotels or anywhere on-campus in the bedrooms.
  • Can I bring an extra mini fridge? Due to spacing issues, no additional mini fridges are allowed. Each room already comes with a mini fridge and microwave.
  • What is provided in the room? Pillows, towels, sheets, comforter, toilet paper, iron, ironing board, and a desk lamp are provided in each room.
  • What size bed will I have? Rooms at the Comfort Inn either have queen or twin beds. All blankets, linens, towels, etc... are provided and laundered by the hotel. If you have a question about what size bed you are assigned to, please email housing@humboldt.edu.
  • Are there only Cal Poly Humboldt students staying in the hotels? Yes, the hotels only house Cal Poly Humboldt students. All the hotels are closed to the public.
